H. CONCERNING MATRIMONIAL RELATIONS

81. At liberty to marry whom you will, only in the Lord.

The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. - 1 Corinthians 7v39


82. Husbands and wives not to separate except for adultery

Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. - Matthew 19v6-9

And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband - 1 Corinthians 7v10

which will exclude from the Kingdom of God.

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind - 1 Corinthians 6v9


83. A husband or wife becoming a believerwithout the other, not to leave the other, if he or she consent to a peaceable life.

But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace. - 1 Corinthians 7v12-15


84. Husbands to love, honour, and cherish their wives.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it - Ephesians 5v25

Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. - Colossians 3v19

Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. - 1 Peter 3v7


85. Wives to love, submit to, and obey their husbands as the head.

For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. - Ephesians 5v23-24

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. - Colossians 3v18

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives - 1 Peter 3v1


I. CONCERNING PARENTS AND CHILDREN

86. Parents to bring up their children in the enlightenment of the truth, and to have them in subjection with all gravity.

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. - Ephesians 6v4

Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. - Colossians 3v21

Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity - 1 Timothy 3v3-4


87. Children to obey their parents in all things.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. - Ephesians 6v1

Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. - Colossians 3v20


J. CONCERNING MASTERS AND SERVANTS

88. Masters to be kind, just and considerate.

And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him. - Ephesians 6v9

Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. - Colossians 4v1


89. Servants to be obedient in all things to their masters, not with eye service as men-pleasers, but with all faithfulness as unto Christ, even if the master happen to be a bad one.

Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. - Ephesians 6v5-8

Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God - Colossians 3v22

Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort. - 1 Timothy 6v1-2

Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. - 1 Peter 2v18

But servants are at liberty to leave.

Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather. - 1 Corinthians 7v21


90. If the master be a brother, the servant also a brother or sister, instead of rendering a slacker service on that account, is to show a greater measure of obedience.

And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort. - 1 Timothy 6v2


J. CONCERNING MASTERS AND SERVANTS

91. If any man obey not the apostolic commands, the brethren to have no company with him.

And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. - 2 Thessalonians 3v14


92. To avoid those causing divisions.

Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. - Romans 16v17


93. To withdraw from everyone walking disorderly, or not in accordance with apostolic precept.

Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. - 2 Thessalonians 3v6


94. To put away wicked persons.

But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. - 1 Corinthians 5v11


95. To reject or receive not into fellowship those who consent not to the doctrine or the commandments of the Lord Jesus.

Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed - 2 John 1v8-10

If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. - 1 Timothy 6v3-5

A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject - Titus 3v10


96. If any will not work, he is not to be relieved.

For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. - 2 Thessalonians 3v10

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. - 1 Timothy 5v8


L. CONCERNING THE ASSEMBLIES OF THE BRETHREN

97. All things to be done decently, and in order.

Let all things be done decently and in order. - 1 Corinthians 14v40


98. All things to be done in love, and in mutual submission.

Let all your things be done with charity. - 1 Corinthians 16v14

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. - 1 Peter 5v5


99. Sisters to keep silence

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. - 1 Timothy 2v11-12

and to dress modestly and in sobriety.

In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array - 1 Timothy 2v9

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. - 1 Peter 3v3-4


100. The brethren at liberty on all questions of eating and drinking, and the observance of feasts, sabbaths, and holy days

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days - Colossians 2v16

Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake - 1 Corinthians 10v25

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. - Romans 14v5-7

except that they are not at liberty to do anything inconsistent with holiness, or the glory of God.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. - 1 Corinthians 10v31

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. - 1 Peter 1v15-16

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord - Hebrews 12v14
